Explore Bovilla Lake and its mountain scenery. Lake Bovilla, also known as Bovilla Reservoir, is a hidden gem in Albania. It provides most of the drinking water for the capital, so there is not allowed to swim. You can visit the lake for a picnic or enjoy a hike to the Gamti mountain, where the view of Bovilla Lake is breathtaking. Learn about the region’s flora and fauna from your own personal guide as you traverse pristine landscapes.
We recommend booking an individual private tour with an off-road car and a local guide/driver, departing early in the morning, as it is approximately a 1 hour and 40-minute drive from Peledami apartment, and the road uphill is challenging. It’s best to arrive early, before the crowds, and to avoid the heat, especially during the summer.
As we leave Tirana behind, the scenic drive towards Bovilla Lake unfolds through picturesque landscapes. Rolling hills, quaint villages, and expansive fields create a serene backdrop, setting the tone for a tranquil day ahead. Upon reaching Bovilla Lake, be captivated by the untouched beauty of the surroundings.
The hike to Gamti mountain is moderate, and now you have a lot of safe stairs. There is no water source on the mountain, so make sure you have at least 1.5 liters of water with you. The hike takes about 2 hours. We do not reccomend to go there with small kids. When you reach the peak, the view of the watercolor of Bovilla is breathtaking. Take a moment to absorb the serenity before embarking on the day’s exploration and make a wonderful photos. During the summer, there is a small bar next to the lake where you can enjoy a drink, some grilled food, but we haven’t tried it.
After the view we continued another way through mountines to small historical town Kruja with one of the most famous castles and the Old Bazaar, which was just perfect combination. We arrived really tired and after the arrival we ended up in nice beach restaurant to have a nice dinner. Make sure you reserve the next day for relaxation on the beach after this trip. 🙂
